Assemble Your Device Samsung Galaxy S9
This section helps you to assemble your device.
Install the SIM Card and a Memory Card
When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card the samsung Galaxy S9. During activation, your SIM card is loaded with your subscription details, such as your Personal Identification Number (PIN), available optional services, and other features.

Warning: Please be careful when handling the SIM card to avoid damaging it. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children. You can also install an optional micro SD™ or micro SDHC™ memory card (not included) to add more memory space to your device.


Note: To improve performance and reliability with high-definition video recording and playback, it is
recommended you use a memory card (SD card) that is both rated as at least a Class 10 and provides a high read speed The Samsung Galaxy S9
Caution: Exercise care when using the removal tool to eject the internal SIM card/Memory card tray.
  1. Insert the removal tool into the hole on the SIM card/Memory card tray, and then push until the tray pops out.
  2. Place the SIM card on the tray.
    • Make sure that the card’s gold contacts face down into the device and that the card is positioned as shown.
  3. Place the memory card on the tray with the gold contacts facing down.
  4. Slide the SIM card/Memory card tray back into the slot.
    Important: To prevent water and dust from entering the device, remove any dust on the O-Ring and ensure that the SIM card tray is closed tightly.
    Caution: If the SIM card is not inserted correctly, the device cannot detect it. Reorient the card and place itback into the slot if the SIM is not detected.
Maintaining Water and
Dust Resistance
Note: Water-resistant and dustproof based on IP68 rating, which tests submersion up to 5.0 feet for up to 30 minutes.
This device is rated IP68 using the Ingress Protection rating system.

Your device has been tested in a controlled environment and shown to be water and dust resistant
in certain circumstances (meets requirements of classification IP68 as described by the international standard IEC 60529 - Degrees of Protection provided by Enclosures [IP Code]; test conditions: 15-35°C, 86-106 kPa, 5 feet, for 30 minutes). Despite this classification, your device is not impervious to water damage in any situation. It is important that all compartments are closed tightly.

Follow these tips carefully to prevent damage to the device.
  • Whenever your device gets wet, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Do not expose the device to salt water or ionized water, or to water over 5.0 feet deep for more than 30 minutes. If your device is exposed to fresh water, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. If the device is exposed to any liquid other than fresh water, rinse the device with fresh water immediately and dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. Failure to rinse the device in fresh water and dry it as instructed may cause the device to suffer from operability or cosmetic issues.
  • Do not expose the device to water at high pressure, such as ocean waves or a waterfall.
  • If the device is dropped or receives an impact, the water and dust resistant features of the device may be damaged.
  • The touchscreen and other features may not work properly if the device is used in water or in other liquids.
Charge the Battery Samsung Galaxy S9
Your device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion battery. A USB charger (charging head and USB cable) is included with the device for charging the battery from any standard outlet.
The battery comes partially charged. A fully discharged battery requires up to four hours of charge
time. You can use the device while charging.


  • Note: It is recommended you fully charge the battery before using your device for the first time.
  • Note: For fastest charging times, use the Adaptive Fast Charging charger that came with your device. This charger provides faster charging only when connected to devices that support Adaptive Fast Charging.
Caution: Use only charging devices and batteries approved by  Samsung Galaxy S9. Samsung accessories
are designed to maximize battery life. Using other accessories may invalidate your warranty and may
cause damage.
  1. Insert the USB cable into the USB charger/ Accessory port.
  2. Connect the USB cable to the charging head, and then plug the charging head into a standard outlet.
  3. Unplug the charging head from the outlet and remove the USB cable from the device when charging is complete.
  • Note: This device is also compatible with wireless charging devices approved by Samsung, which are
sold separately.
When to Charge the Battery
When the battery is low and only a few minutes of operation remain, the device sounds a warning tone at regular intervals.

In this condition, your device conserves its remaining battery power by dimming the screen.


When the battery level becomes too low, the device automatically turns off.
For a quick check of your battery level:
  • View the battery charge indicator located in the top right corner of your device’s display. A solid color ( ) indicates a full charge. You can also choose to display a percentage value. Viewing a percentage value can provide a better idea of the remaining charge on the battery.

Set Up Your Device
Turn Your Device On or Off
The instructions below explain how to turn your device on or off.
Turn the Device On
To turn the device on:
► Press and hold the Power key until the device turns on.
Turn the Device Off
To turn the device off:
  1. Press and hold the Power key until the Device options menu is displayed.
  2. Tap Power off, and confirm if prompted.
Reset the Device
If your device stops responding to taps or finger gestures and you are unable to turn it off, you can
reset your device.
► Press and hold the Power key and the Volume down key at the same time for more than seven seconds.
Initial Set Up
The first time you turn your device on, a Welcome screen is displayed. It guides you through the basics of setting up your device.
Follow the prompts to choose a default language, connect to a Wi-Fi® network, set up accounts, choose location services, learn about your device’s features, and more.
  • Note: Voice Assistant provides voice prompts and descriptions of items on the screen to improve
accessibility. During setup, you can enable or disable
Voice Assistant by pressing the Home key quickly three times.
Smart Switch
Use Smart Switch™ to transfer contacts, photos, and other content from your old device.
  1. Select Smart Switch during setup. – or – Tap Apps > Settings > Backup and reset > Open Smart Switch.
  2. Follow the instructions and select the content to transfer.

Secure Your Device
Use your device’s screen lock features to secure your device.
Lock the Device
By default, the device locks automatically when the screen times out.

To lock the device:
► Press the Power key.
Unlock the Device
The default Screen lock on your device is Swipe.
  • Note: To choose a more secure screen lock,
To unlock the device:
► Press the Power key or Home key, and then drag your finger across the screen.
